Germany is rapidly climbing the ranks as a preferred European destination for Indian tourists in 2025. According to the German National Tourist Board (GNTB), over 232,000 Indian travellers visited Germany in 2023, marking a 33% year-on-year increase in overnight stays. This trend continued

into 2024, with 175,000 Indian tourists contributing to 523,076 overnight stays between January and July. The GNTB anticipates a 10% growth in Indian tourist influx by 2025, aiming to reach one million overnight stays this year.

Several factors contribute to Germany’s rising popularity among Indian travellers. The introduction of new Schengen visa policies, allowing multiple-entry visas valid for two years, has made travel more accessible. A study indicates that 82% of Indian travellers are interested in visiting EU countries, including Germany, due to these new policies.

Germany’s appeal lies in its blend of cultural richness, historical landmarks, and modern attractions. Cities like Berlin, Munich, and Frankfurt offer a mix of historical sites, vibrant arts scenes, and diverse culinary experiences. Additionally, Germany’s efficient transportation network and commitment to sustainability enhance its attractiveness to tourists.

To further cater to Indian tourists, Germany is launching specialised campaigns targeting niche segments such as Indian weddings and honeymoon travel. Initiatives like the ‘Live Like a Local’ project aim to provide personalised, interactive travel experiences, leveraging the high digital competence of Indian traveler.

With these concerted efforts, Germany is positioning itself as a key European destination for Indian tourists, reflecting a broader trend of Indian travellers seeking diverse and enriching experiences abroad.
