On Passport Seva Divas (June 24, 2025), External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar announced the full nationwide rollout of Passport Seva Programme (PSP) V2.0, alongside the launch of chip‑based e‑Passports and other citizen-friendly digital initiatives.

What’s New in Passport Seva 2.0?

PSP V2.0 Across India A major tech overhaul, PSP V2.0 integrates advanced, high-end technologies into every Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) and Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK). It streamlines application submissions, tracking, and grievance redressal through a digital-first approach.

e-Passports Go Live India’s shift to chip-enabled biometric e-Passports has begun, with issuance underway in at least 13 cities, including Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, and Delhi. These passports contain encrypted RFID chips holding personal and fingerprint data, supporting faster immigration via automated e-gates.

Global Rollout in Embassies PSP V2.0 is being pilot‑tested in Indian embassies and consulates abroad, with plans for phased integration—a boon for Indian citizens overseas.

mPassport Police App This app has cut down police-verification times to 5–7 days in 25 states, significantly reducing wait times.
