JAMMU & KASHMIR: Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed its third encounter with terrorists within the last 24 hours, resulting in the martyrdom of an Army soldier. Security forces have reportedly cordoned off a group of terrorists in Udhampur. In a related development, four individuals suspected of being Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and assisting terrorists have been arrested. Meanwhile, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi is scheduled to visit Kashmir on Friday to review the security situation.

Third Encounter in 24 Hours:

This latest confrontation marks the third encounter between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir in a mere 24-hour span, following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The most recent clash took place in the Dudu Basantgarh area of Udhampur, where security forces had launched an operation and surrounded some terrorists.

During the intense exchange of fire, Havaldar Jhantu Ali Sheikh of the Army made the supreme sacrifice and was martyred. The White Knight Corps and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha have paid heartfelt tributes to the brave Havaldar.

LeT Over Ground Workers Arrested in Bandipora:

Separately, police in Bandipora, Jammu and Kashmir, have achieved a significant success by arresting four Over Ground Workers (OGWs) associated with the proscribed terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of these LeT OGWs, who were allegedly looking for opportunities to attack police personnel and local residents, police launched a swift operation.

The arrests were made before the suspects could carry out any nefarious activities. Police recovered illegal arms and ammunition from their possession, which included two Chinese hand grenades, one 7.62mm magazine, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Following the intelligence and arrests, Bandipora police initiated a comprehensive search operation, cordoning off various locations across the district.

Army on High Alert, Chief to Visit Kashmir:

Following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam and the subsequent surge in counter-insurgency operations, the Indian government appears to be in a mood for strong action against terrorism. The India-Pakistan border has been placed on high alert.

Amidst these developments, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has reviewed the security preparedness in the region. He is slated to visit Srinagar on Friday to personally assess the situation. During his visit, General Dwivedi will hold meetings with top commanders of local military formations deployed in the Kashmir Valley and along the Line of Control (LoC) to gain firsthand information on the measures being undertaken by security forces.
